Limited Edition Compact benefits Ovarian Cancer Fund

L’Oreal commissioned Carelle, known for colored gemstone jewelry, to create a compact featuring lemon citrine and pale green quartz stones set in 18K yellow gold with diamond details. During the 2009 Golden Globes Awards show one will be auctioned off.

Each of the women nominated for best actress in a drama and in a comedy will receive one to commemorate her achievement. In addition to the compacts gifted to the likes of Angelina and Meryl (9 in total), one last compact will be auctioned off to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation at eBay.com during the Golden Globes show on January 11, 2009.

Additionally, L’Oreal Paris Consulting Makeup Artist, Collier Strong has identified the top trends we will see on the red carpet on January 11, 2009 and they are as follows.

Here are three trends for 2009 -

Trend 1
Focus On The Lips
“It’s all about a beautiful bold lip!  Whether it’s warm or cool, a bold, opaque, red lip has a very sexy yet romantic feel. The eyes are as glamorous or neutral as your wardrobe dictates. During the day, eyes are kept simple; at night, opt for a darker look. Either way, eye makeup should be blended beautifully and brows should be perfectly groomed for an elegant look. Finish the eyes with long, beautiful lashes. Pair this look with clean, glowy makeup, achieved with foundation, concealer and powder. For cheeks, use a complementary color to the red of the lip that works with your skin tone. Apply on the apples of the check for a pop of color.”

Trend 2
Eyes…Use Color!
“Whether it’s a wash of color or a bold, dark statement, using color on the eyes looks gorgeous. Try a beautiful violet, blue or dark purple, or coordinate your eye color with your clothing. Try using color on the upper lids only, or on the upper lids and under the lower lash line. You can even add a hint of color on the inner corners and under the eye…just make sure the edges are blended out beautifully. Think of watercolors and softness…that’s what makes this color work! Use a complementary lip and cheek color for softer eye makeup shades and a transparent lip and cheek look when using bolder eye colors.”

Trend 3
It’s All About The Metallics!
“I love a dark, dramatic, metallic eye in black, dark brown, navy or burgundy. It’s very sexy and a great look for an evening party or event. Start with a dark liner that matches your shadow at the base of the lash. Apply a dark metallic shadow on the lid, up to the crease. Lightly run a little metallic shadow under the lower lashes. Use a lighter metallic shadow on the brow bone and on the inner corners of the eye. For a really shimmery effect, you can add an extra highlighter over the entire eyelid. Finish the eyes with dramatic, sweeping lashes. Pair this look with matte, satin skin and keep lips and cheeks very neutral.”

New Italian Luxe coming to Miami?

The Beacon Council has a fashion initiative to bring fashion shows, trade shows and upscale showrooms spurring economic growth for Miami. Kinda like in New York and Los Angeles. Lets hope these notables can get it together. Some of the major players included Frank Nero, Diego Stecchi and Giovanni Bozzetti.

The bigger fashion brands are unlikely to invest but little known companies (at least to the rest of the world) outside of Italy and other part of Europe have the most to gain by establishing positions in Miami.

Eight Italian fashion companies showed up to spread awareness of their lines and are looking to find business partners. We caught up with Imelde Cavalleri of I Pinco Pallino and found they have a social plan to fashion in so far as they sponsor a school for kids. More on the angle of that coming up soon in a video reportage.

For now here is what it looks like when notables get together and sign a "memorandum of understanding". WOW!

Bal Harbours Project Newborn Fashion Show and Auction

Project New Born's 35th Annual Bal Harbour Shops Fashion Show Luncheon and Kahlua Creation Chefs was held at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club. Guests enjoyed tasting the Kahlua Creations at 10:30 a.m., and the luncheon and fashion show began at noon. Money raised from the event helps to maintain and support the Neonatal Intensive Care unit in the Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine in the Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Some notable pieces of the auction included a Zena Eva Red Snake Bowler handbag, a Gucci "Babouska" clutch and Giorgio Armani necklace.

This auction caught the interest of Sara Maria (Fifi) Castany, Editor in Chief of OceanDrive Espanol who I think was after the clutch. And I also saw Jennifer Valoppi who eyeballed the bowling bag.

Bal Harbour Shops's, Cheryl Stephenson said the fashion show video will be featured on the Bal Harbour website very soon!

Babies and High Heels? Would you put them on your baby girl?

There is a shop where you can buy high heel shoes for your baby girl. But is it a good thing to put them on little girls?? The StyleWise's Clinical Hypnotherapist (Patrick Wanis PhD) says no way! And we agree!! What do you think? Would you put high heels on your baby girl? The StyleWise wants to know.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Here is Patrick's take -
Most people quickly associate stilettos and high heels with sexy women, promiscuity, strippers and prostitutes. Heelarious, a company created by two women, thought it would be funny to create high heel shoes for babies. And given that it is expected that the gift bags for celebs at the Emmys will have these shoes included, now the even bigger issue is: pop culture's impact on how we raise our children and how we show them to the world.

"Mothers are dangerously losing sight of their true role - to love, nurture and guide their daughters and to teach them to realize their full potential." says Patrick Wanis PhD, a Miami therapist, author and Human Behavior Expert. "Instead we now have examples of mothers who are trying to outdo each other because of peer pressure, social status, and are showing off their babies as sexualized objects rather than beautiful beings who should be recognized, appreciated and identified for their innocence, vulnerability and helplessness" says Wanis. "By buying these stiletto shoes for babies, women are selling themselves out, and adding to the exploitation of females."

Recently Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place featured an episode called "Quinceanera" which in the Latin culture is the celebration of coming of age, when a young girl is becoming a woman. This occurs at age 15. The "Quinceanera" in Disney's TV show is symbolized by a ceremonial "changing of the shoes" from a flat to high heel. The women who created these stiletto shoes for babies are not aware that they are sexualizing female babies and objectifying women. "When women endorse the sale of high heel shoes for babies, they become hypocrites of our own culture" says Wanis "Disney's definitely got this one right."

"Parents still need to monitor when and where their daughters where heels," Wanis cautions, "and parents, particularly mothers, need to be aware that children need guidance, perimeters, and boundaries. We must set our own lines and boundaries for what is right and wrong and beware what is psychologically dangerous to the emotional and sexual psyche of our babies." Keeping children aware and protected from sexual predators is at the forefront of America's minds, but the continued bombardment of sexualization of young children can potentially lead to pedophilia. The media and pop-culture are desensitizing new mothers into thinking that it is OK to view young children and babies as sexual objects. They forget that daughters (babies) are not there for the physical, visual or sexual pleasure of mothers or fathers or the general public."

Patrick Wanis PhD is not affiliated with Disney and has no financial interests in Disney. More talking points available upon request. Originally from Australia, Patrick Wanis PhD, is a Celebrity Life-Coach, Author and an Expert in Human Behavior and Relationships. He is a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner and Clinical Hypnotherapist with a PhD in Health Psychology. Wanis is a regular contributor to major news outlets -FOX News, MSNBC and the Montel Williams Show, The StyleWise Reportage and is the weekly featured analyst on celebrity behavior for The New York Observer. Wanis is the first person ever to do Clinical Hypnotherapy on national television. Wanis coaches and works with various celebrities. WGN Chicago and Syndicated TV show, "The Daily Buzz" anointed him "The Woman Expert" and FOX News pronounced him "A voice for women." Over four and a half million people have read Wanis' books in English and Spanish.

Charlotte Ronson dresses us to walk London's King Road in style!

Ronson siblings are DJ's so she knows the club crowd and with her spring fashion collection, she showed she can dress them too.

She showed a collection of young urban looks in many of the outfits. Many looks went sexy due to a sheer fabric and a knit bustier top worn with skinny-leg sweatpants. And almost all the looks were worn with fishnet socks and platform shoes with big heels.

And Charlotte proved she could attract a more polished consumer with corset-style dresses in a subtle cheetah-print pique fabric and a feminine ruffle-front frock in a floral pattern that blended coral, lavender and brown.

Ronson also showed a knack for knits, including a sweater dress in teal and blush pink with cutout shoulders perfect fot the London weather and for walking on the Kings Road.

Charlotte Ronson had Lindsay Lohan in the front row!

We saw that Lindsay looked great as she arrived backstage at the Charlotte Ronson Show in a denim corset dress with bright blue pumps. A curvy girl that looks good in something tight!

Simple, elegant, SEXY!!

Venexiana. A name you probably never heard of!

I had never heard of Venexiana before last season and Friday night's show kicked off with flashing blue lights and music so loud it made the floor shake. Her collection as equally impressive with furs so lavish they would make Ivana Trump jealous.

Some say the whole collection was very "chi-chi I am better than you" with models stomping down the runway with tight ringlet curls pinned up in a very 1940's fashion. But if you are not anti fur then Venexiana's looks are elegant and stylish with great pieces of fur. Fur coats, fur trim, fur accessories, fur everything.

We liked the gowns and sexy tops!

Incomparably preppy?? Some say no way!

It's the Perry Ellis Spring 2009 Collection. Some say Creative Director John Crocco tried too hard and the collection of 40 looks, which featured a lot of wool, tried and failed to boast creativity. According to some the clothes fit the men better when they were played down and more conservative, but in other cases the colors and fabrics distracted and de-emphasized the wearer’s masculinity instead of playing it up. Several culprits included burgundy pants, purple velvet cardigans and puffer vests, and the use of green rain boots as accessories. Appropriate for fall, yes, but perhaps not appropriate at all.

“It’s more of a preppy without the privilege,” said Perry Ellis creative director John Crocco. “It’s not a New England prep school prep and it’s not British-inspired. It’s really American prep.” He says it's a bit of West Coast prep actually – think Palm Springs. So come spring it’s all about casual cardigans, polos and pullovers. Looks that are rugged yet refined. Like the calm cool nights in the California dessert this colorful collection is easy breezy, but also bold. You decide.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tent 2008

From the outside it looks like a polling booth. The trend in this years event design is to emulate a voting station. Maybe cuz we do not get out and vote en masse and this is a master plan by the government to get us used to seeing set ups like this so we do get out and vote. Not a very good conspiracy theory so we better stick to fashion topics huh?

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, New York

So on a rainy cold day in New York fashion week started up in the tents at Bryant Park.

Bumped into Cheryl Hines who came in to see the BCBGMaxAzria show. We had a nice chat. She's cool!

Check out this "green" Mercedes Benz to be released in 2010. A hybrid vehicle currently in production. Nice Huh? Like $100,000 nice. Love the color.

There were two guys standing right in front of that nice car and I had to ask them to move. At first they thought I wanted to take their picture when I was really after the car.

It turned out it was James Aguiar who was doing his gig for VH'1 Full Frontal Fashion and hanging on a break with his buddy Michael Fink. Do you think James is good looking?? Vote over there on the right side of the page!

Coming up on the StyleWise website is our take on the funny hats that were around and some backstage interviews with Duckie Brown and Venexiana.
